Coursework Regulations  
  • Submission of coursework must be undertaken according to the relevant procedure. Lecturers will give information as to which procedure must be followed, and details of submission procedures and penalty fees can be obtained from Academic Administration or the general student handbook.
  • Late coursework will be accepted by Academic Admin Office and marked according to the guidelines given in your Student Handbook for this year.
  • If you need an extension (even for one day) for a valid reason, you must request one. Collect a coursework extension request form from the Academic Admin Office. Then take the form to your lecturer, along with evidence to back up your request. The completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of you being sick. The completed form must then be returned to Academic Admin for processing. This is the only way to get an extension.

Purpose of this assignment
The assignment is designed to provide learners the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge gained from the unit to work with and lead others, through the use of effective recruitment, selection and retention procedures; leadership skills; the ability to work effectively in a team and assessing the development needs of individual and their performance.
Introduction
Write an integrated report that completes all 3 parts of the task in the body, with one Executive Summary, one Introduction, one Conclusion and one Reference List. Within each part, there are some sub-parts. You should answer these sub-parts in an integrated way in paragraphs.
For the purpose of the report, you will choose a sector and you should, where possible, use your own workplace as the basis for this task; but you may use another organisation as your focus if you have relevant experience elsewhere. When choosing the organisation to use for this assignment, you should be looking for opportunities to address and apply the key areas in each task. You will need to give a careful attention to what each task required so that you do not wholly report the Human Resource Practices of your chosen organisation but report your own findings in relation to the key areas addressed in the tasks.
If you are not currently in employment, then you should try to undertake this task in relation to the organisation which you would like to work for or you have some knowledge, or any other organisation where you can obtain the required information or the organisation to be supplied shortly as a case study. In exceptional circumstance, and where this is not possible, contact your tutor.
Title – Recruitment, selection and retention procedures 
Scenario
Recently, you have been appointed as Human Resource Manager by a busy firm. Since you are a new recruit who is also on HND Business Management course, it is expected that you will have current knowledge around human resource practices. Your HR director, Jane wanted to review your skills and knowledge in various areas that will help her decide your future within the firm. For the first task, she wanted to know your expertise in recruitment, selection and retention procedures to ensure the firm employs the right people for the job.
She has requested you to prepare a report on the recruitment and selection process which you had adopted for your organisation. For the purpose of this task, you will select a specific Job role of particular interest to yourself or career which you might want to pursue in the future. She has given you the following instruction for your report.
TASK 1
Devise appropriate Job description and Person specification to recruit a candidate for
your chosen job role. (AC 1.1)
Select the most recent employment legislation with ethical considerations and assess the impact it may have on recruiting and selecting the above candidate.  (AC 1.2)

Title – The styles and impact of Leadership in team 
Introduction         
Effective Team Leaders understand their roles, functions and responsibilities; and the limits of their authority and accountability. They also know how to develop, equip, facilitate the team and identify development needs of individuals to improve their work performance.
Scenario 
For the second task, your HR director has asked you to write a report on your understanding of the impacts of leadership and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Your task is to explore specific aspects of the role of leadership in teams. You do not actually need to be leading a team in order to complete this task, but you will need to focus on the roles and responsibilities of team leader for ensuring goals and objectives are achieved in your chosen organisation.
TASK 2
Leadership in Team
Explain the skills and attributes required for leadership.(AC 2.1)
Explain what leadership is and how it is different from management.(AC 2.2)
Outline the importance of teamwork and assess its benefits for your chosen organisation.(AC 3.1)
Compare the leadership styles which you will use to deal with different situations by demonstrating the role of a leader and member.
( underperforming team or team diversity related issues such as conflict, complaint from customers, poor time-keeping and missing deadlines etc. )

Motivating your team to perform 
Select at least one of the theories of motivation that you have learnt in the unit and, putting this theory into practical use, explain three things you could do to motivate a workteam in your chosen organisation.  (AC 2.4)
Title –  Assessment of work and development needs 
Introduction:
Human resource development has become, and will remain, central to organisational success. Employee development, as it develops into a ‘learning society’, work organisations are becoming important partners in this learning society, as they provide ever more opportunities for continuous learning to their employees, in order to optimise performance of work. 
Scenario 
For the final task, your HR director wanted you to demonstrate how you will assess the performance and development needs of your colleague.
The HR director, Jane has decided to run a series of seminars as part of commitment to CPD where all staff will give a presentation to exchange their knowledge, experience and practice. She wanted you to present the assessment of the work and development needs of your colleague which you have conducted.
TASK 3 
Produce a personal development plan that identifies skills and knowledge which need to be developed; how should it be developed; how should it be monitored and assessed. You will need to do the plan within the context of a specific profession for someone whom you know, your colleague (or) if you are not in employment, you can provide a profile of an individual.
Carry out SWOT analysis of your colleague, taking into consideration of the professional standards in your chosen field. You can use the SWOT analysis template to do this.

Set specific objectives or detailed targets and describe how such skills and knowledge can be developed and learnt as a way of preparing the person for better performance. State how you will measure the performance of individual. You can use the PDP template to do this.     (AC 4.2)
